Conference discusses ways for Native students to become nurses, doctors

American Indian and Alaska Native students are moving steadily along on paths to become nurses and doctors. But some say it's still way too slow.
While more Native students are packing their bags and taking off for medical and dental schools, major barriers still exist that deter them from achieving their dreams, according to spokespeople for Pathways Into Health, an organization that tracks the shortage of American Indian and Alaska Native health professionals across the country.
