Four student-athletes with state titles are among the top selections for the 2009 Navajo Times All-Area All-Star Track and Field team.

The All-Area All-Star athletes of the year include Ryan Yazzie of Tuba City, Tevin Renfro of Winslow, Jordan Brown of Gallup and Melanie Keslop of Kirtland Central.

Selected as coaches of the year are Sal Hernandez of Winslow and LeLand Adair of Kirtland Central.

Yazzie, a junior, won four Arizona 3A state titles in the 3,200-meter run, the 1,600, 800 and as a member of the Warriors' 4x800 relay team. For these honors, he is the male track athlete of the year.

Renfro, a junior, won two Arizona 3A state titles in the high jump and the triple jump and placed fourth in the long jump. For these honors, he is named the athlete of the year in field events.

Winslow coach Hernandez and the Bulldogs' track and field team placed third at the Arizona 3A state meet. But the state title was not decided until the final day when Blue Ridge edged out runner-up Snowflake and Winslow. Hernandez is the boys' coach of the year.

Brown, a senior, is the female track athlete of the year. She finished her high school career with her first Class 5A state title in the 3,200-meter run. She also placed fifth in the 800-meter run.

Heslop, a junior, is the female athlete of the year in field events. She won the Class 4A state title in the shot put and placed third in the discus.

KC's Adair coached the Lady Broncos to a fourth place team finish at the state meet, earning him girls' coach of the year honors.
